From July 2009 to June 2010, the ISS conducts an Integrated Planning of Sport Development in cooperation with DuisburgSport. The city with a population of approx. 499,000 is divided into three areas by the rivers Rhine and Ruhr. The ISEP planning process will separately address the special characterics and needs of each of these areas. With its project Duisburg 2027, the city of Duisburg has set a number of long-term strategic goals for the city’s development. One of them is to turn Duisburg into a sport city. ISEP will be one of several projects to optimize the development of urban spaces in the city. The goal is to integrate city development and sport development within a single unified concept. Both the inventory of sport facilities, spaces and opportunities for physical activity, and sport offers as well as the needs assessment will be conducted following the field guide of the Federal Institute of Sport Science (BISp). The assessment of sport and physical activity behavior will be conducted in the CATI lab of the ISS. The goals of the cooperative planning process is to reach a consensus on goals and priorities among the various institutions, interest groups, and sub-populations in the city of Duisburg and to compile a comprehensive cataglogue of measures within the framework of the Duisburg 2027 plan.
